About Cat Sparks

Besides being a close friend – here is a selfie she took of us in Sydney to prove it – Cat is aterrific photographer as well as a multi-award-winning author.

Sixty-five of her short stories have been published since the turn of the millennium and she has received a total of nineteen Aurealis and Ditmar awards for writing. She is also an editor, and received the Peter McNamara Conveners Award 2004 for services to Australia’s speculative fiction industry. Her former employment has included: media monitor, political and archaeological photographer, graphic designer, Fiction Editor of Cosmos Magazine and Manager of Agog! Press.

In 2012 an Australia Council emerging writers grant enabled her to participate in Margaret Atwood’s The Time Machine Doorway workshop in the U.S and she is currently in the final throes of a PhD in climate change fiction with Curtin University. Her specialty is Climate Change Fiction.

Her short story collection The Bride Price, was published in 2013 won a Ditmar for Best Collected Work in 2014.

Her debut novel, Lotus Blue, will be published by Talos Press in February.
